FAQ’S

Are your products Organic?

Our products are not organic, although our farmers do what they can to limit the needs for pesticides including crop rotation to improve soil conditions and increase efficiency without the need for fertiliser.

Are your products Nut & Peanut free?

All of our products are produced in a nut & peanut free environment at our factory in Suffolk, so a lot of our products are nut & peanut free. However, some of our raw materials are supplied from factories which are not nut & peanut free, so in those cases we label our products with a “May Contain Nuts and Peanuts” warning. You can see which products these are by looking at the “Allergy Information” section on the product pages.

Are your products suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians?

Almost all of our products are suitable for vegans, the only exceptions are our “Honey Roasted” seeds which contain “Honey” and are suitable for vegetarians, and our Choccy seeds which currently contain “Shellac” which has been recently classed as no longer suitable for vegetarians. We are actively looking for a vegetarian society approved replacement for this ingredient.

Are your products gluten free?

Yes. We do not handle products containing gluten on our site and we regularly test our products to make sure they are gluten free.

Are your seed mixes a good source of protein and fibre?

All seeds including pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, linseed / flaxseeds, hemp, chia are a source of protein and fibre. For more information see our “Power of Seeds” pages.

How long will the seeds last once the pack is opened?

If our seeds are in one of our resealable pouches or tubs then we would recommend using them within a couple of months of first opening, and before the best before date, provided the pouch is resealed between usage occasions.

If our seeds are in a sachet or pillow bag then we would recommend using them within a week or transferring them to an airtight container if you want to keep them for longer.

Are your seed mixes suitable for people with sesame seed allergy?

Due to the fact we use sesame in a lot of our products we put a “May Contain Sesame” warning on all of our products that do not contain Sesame as we cannot guarantee there will not be any cross contamination.

Does roasting the seeds make them more or less nutritionally beneficial to us?

The roasting of our seeds will not have any impact on the mineral content of the seeds (iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium, selenium and zinc) but it will have some impact on the vitamin content of the seeds and this depends on whether the vitamins are fat soluble (A, D & E) or water soluble (B complex & C). Fat soluble vitamins tend to be more heat stable than water soluble. However, because our seeds are dry roasted whole the reduction in nutritional value will be much lower than prepared vegetables cooked in water or oil.

Seeds are high in fat, is that good or bad fat?

Seeds are high in fat, the good news is that they are high in mono-unsaturated fat and poly-unsaturated fats which are the healthy fats.

How many seeds should I eat a day?

In line with dietary recommendations to have lots of variety in your diet and to eat everything in moderation we would suggest that 1-2 25g portions of seeds per day would be sufficient to get the all the benefits of seeds in your diet.

Are seeds good for me?

Seeds are good sources of protein, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals and are recommended by nutritionists as part of a healthy balanced diet.

If I plant munchy seeds will they grow?

Because our seeds have been roasted they are no longer viable and will not grow.

Is your packaging recyclable?

We are moving all our packing to recyclable by the end of 2022. Recyclable packaging has the recycle logo on the back of pack. Please contact your local authority to understand what can be recycled in your area. If your local authority does not recycle this material at the roadside then you should be able to dispose of plastic products at many UK supermarket banks and refuse centres.

Why are you in plastic?

We started off in plastic tubs as our seeds need to be stored in an airtight container. In 2019 we moved to our current resealable pouches and this reduced our plastic usage buy 40%. When we launched our “Lightly Toasted” range we decided to trial using pillow bags as these reduced our plastic usage by a further 60%. We are constantly reviewing our packaging options to see how we can reduce our impact on the environment.
